Guest blogging is an efficient and time tested way of building traffic to your website. It can drive traffic to your website almost immediately as soon as your article is published.
But we are NOT talking about GUEST BLOGGING
Because it takes time to build relationship
I will show you to build traffic from the first day, which is not possible through guest blogging, because it takes time to build relationship with bloggers.
Moreover there is no guarantee when you will get a break through.
No I do not doubt your capability,
But there are things just beyond our control. Guest blogging involves lot of work such as preparing list of popular blogs in your niche, understanding and familiarizing their individual style and persona, establishing network with influencers and blog owners and blah blah blah...
All of this is going to take time.
You will also face countless rejection before you see your blog published at some major publications or on an influencer's website.
So I am not going to talk about guest blogging here.
I will only speak about things that will help you drive traffic almost instantly and easily.
The strategies that I tell are not a secret. There are many strategies that will help you build traffic. But I will discuss only three of them.
These are handpicked for a reason.
These strategies are such that doesn't require you to spend time asking for anyone's permission or build connections like guest blogging.
You can jump on these strategies right-way and start building your traffic. One of it is paid strategy and the other two are free.
Do all or any of these three things to DRIVE TRAFFIC to your blog from TODAY.
YES, FROM TODAY!
Here are They:
- Paid Traffic
- Blog commenting
- Free advertisement (this is the best of all)
One - Paid traffic
Content discovery platforms such as Adwords, Outbrain and Tabola can be quite expensive. But if you have got more money than time, paid traffic can be an excellent way to boost your traffic.
Building traffic through paid platforms is purely optional. If you don't want to spend money to build your traffic, move on to step 2 and 3. There are countless examples of successful blogs and SAAS companies that have built traffic without spending a single marketing dollar on traffic building.
If you haven't prepared about how you are going to engage with the traffic generated, you will easily end up spending several thousand on ad expenses without any substantial gain.
But if you have done a good amount of planning, paid traffic can prove to be a really good source of targeted traffic.
Before you spend even a single marketing dollar on paid traffic, you will have to place various components on your website to make sure your visitors have something interesting to engage to at every level.
Here is what you can do:
- Your landing page should present only one call-to-action. Make it easy for your visitors to know what action they should take. Every bit of information on that page should be aligned to that call-to-action.
- Not every visitor that lands on your landing page will take intended action. Present them with opt-in form to collect their email-id as soon as they try to exit the page. Give them offer they can't resist such as e-books, e-course, How-to guides etc in order to motivate them to fill and submit opt-in form.
- Through e-newsletter and other activities actively try to engage with your users to make them come back to your website.
But here is a catch
Even after spending several thousand dollars, it's quite possible that you may not receive any visitor to your website if your Ad copy is not interesting, or solves a real problem or elicit emotional triggers.
Here is a quick suggestion to get the maximum out of your ad expenses.
Before you run a full fledge paid campaign to drive traffic to your website, run a trial run with multiple ad copies (split test) to check which one delivers maximum click.
Outbrain and Tabola both are content marketing platforms. These are best places to promote your prized contents. However a reader would know about the quality of your content only if they click the title to read your articles. That means your article title should be such that instantly grabs viewers attention and compels them to read it.
Set a budget to run limited trial runs with as many titles as you can for each article that you plan to promote. Measure their performance and use the one that has maximum click through rate.
Two - Blog Commenting
No, blog commenting is not just about link building strategy. It is also an excellent way to drive highly targeted traffic to your blog.
Neil Patel of CrazyEgg generated $25,000 from 249 comments in just one month (October, 2014).
There is real money and traffic in blog commenting and even you can do that.
But how do you know if a blog is accepting a comment?
Any blog where you can find some comments after the post is a good place to comment.
But wait. Read this before you make your first comment if you really want to drive targeted traffic to your blog.
Mindless commenting on any blog that comes your way will not yield any traffic to your blog. Even if traffic happens to comes, you won't gain anything out of that traffic.
Comment only on blogs where your prospective customers like to hang out. Your comment should be thoughtful. If you have nothing worthy to add to, don't comment!
Here are the steps for making blog comments that can skyrocket your traffic:
- Prepare a list of blog -
Google blogs related to your niche and prepare a list of all those blogs that appear in the first 20 pages. Use variety of keywords related to your niche, since not all blogs will rank for each of the keywords used. Prepare a list using spread sheet.
- Find blogs that accept commenting - Visit each of the blog and navigate to the end of the article to check if there are any comments present or at least there is a form available for commenting. Good blog is the one that has thriving community with dozens of comments. Even if there are no comments, still it could be a good place to comment. The fact that these articles are ranking on search engine gives clue that they are already receiving traffic from search engine for the keywords you have used. They are good places to comment, no matter whether there are already any existing comments or not.
Create three columns in the spreadsheet. In the first column add the website address of the blogs, in the second column mention comment date and in the third column you can mention the traffic you received in first 7 days. After a month you will have a fair idea about where you should be commenting most. Try to be the first one to comment on blogs that drives maximum traffic to your website. To continuously discover new blog posts, you can subscribe to Google RSS Reader.
- Comment with a purpose - Time spent on commenting can easily go waste if it has no purpose. Comments without thought adds no value.
Spend a minute to put thought into your comment. A good comment with a potential to drive traffic should:
If your comment delivers real value to the readers, they will find themselves compelled to click your website address from your signature to know more about you.
- add value to the article
- present a different perspective
- mention resource that complements the article
- not try to build your brand, rather focus only on helping people (readers can smell promotional attempt from miles away)
- express disagreement with a reason
- support article with more stats and facts
- give example of a case where learning from the article helped you or someone else deliver tangible result
- have personal experience related to the topic
- ask a question (no one cares to answer a dumb question, so just don't ask for the heck of asking )
- Reply to other comments (just like a blog owner, even commenter loves attention, for sure they will like to know more about you)
- Link your comments to your website. Mention your website address in your signature.
There are tons of people posting comments, so you have to be real awesome to make your comment standout. Show your expertise by presenting valuable ideas. Can you do that just in few words?
Three - Ad Exchange networks
If you don't want to spend a dime on advertising and want to build traffic absolutely free (from today), I got you covered here.
Free advertisements through ad exchange networks offer an excellent way to advertise your blog without spending a dollar.
Ad exchange networks such as Syndicate Blogger connects you instantly with other bloggers in the network. It's an automated service that shows your ad on other blogs through a widget that you will need to place either directly below your content or besides your content. In exchange for every exposure that this page gets, your ad will be shown on 6 to 12 other relevant blogs in the network.
How cool is that!
But what do you do when you have just started and have no traffic?
Don't worry - there is a solution.
The best part about building traffic through Syndicate Blogger is that despite having no existing traffic bases, you can still create audience base for free.
Here is the trick
As a signing bonus you get 5000 impressions free. That's good to get started. But you will quickly run out of inventory. So before you run out of free inventory, you should plan things in such a way that you get something out of every free impressions you get. For example if a visitor doesn't buy your product, he or she should at least signup for the free e-newsletter.
Let me explain how you can use the platform for free forever [even if you don't have any traffic.] That's right.
Ad exchange networks are basically content discovery platform that promotes your content on other blogs in the network. It is quite possible that you may not receive any visitors from these impressions, just like with paid options, if your title or ad copy is not right.
Syndicate Blogger gives an opportunity to create multiple titles for each article you plan to promote on other blogs. This way you can quickly pick the best performing title for the rest of your campaign while suspend the ones that are not performing.
If you can come up with some highly irresistible title for your article, you can easily drive 1000s of visitors to your blog for every 5000 free impressions you get. Isn't that enough for you to get the ball rolling?
Now the interesting thing is that for every visitor, you get 6 free impressions. So if you drive 1000 visitor to your website, you have already earned 6000 free impression at your disposal. It's a cycle which once starts will continue to drive traffic to your website.
The key to be successful with free impressions you get as a joining bonus is to craft each article that delivers high value to your customers. Edit mercilessly everything that sounds fluffy. Write to impress every visitor you get through free impressions. Once the visitor lands on your website and completes reading the article, offer them something hard to resist for exchange of their email. These newsletters are the means to keep your visitors hooked to your website. How you convert your e-newsletter subscribers into raving fans is another topic for discussion.
